What is the cheapest way to heat your house in the UK?

For most UK homes, a modern condensing gas boiler remains one of the more affordable heating options, particularly if you are on a competitive tariff and have decent insulation. Heat pumps can be cheaper to run over time but have high upfront costs.

Improving insulation, draught-proofing windows and doors, and using a programmable thermostat are often the most cost-effective steps regardless of your heating system. Setting your thermostat to 18 to 20 degrees rather than higher can noticeably reduce bills.

Avoid heating rooms you are not using by fitting thermostatic radiator valves. If you are off the gas grid, wood pellet stoves or infrared panels may be worth comparing depending on your circumstances.
