Smell Gas? Do This First

Call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 before you call anyone else. It’s free and open 24 hours a day.

While you wait for them:

  • Turn the gas off at the meter, if it’s safe to get to
  • Open windows and doors
  • Put out cigarettes and any naked flames
  • Don’t turn light switches or anything electrical on or off
  • Get everyone out if the smell is strong, and wait outside

The emergency service will come and make the property safe, usually by shutting off your supply. What they won’t do is find and fix the fault. That’s where we come in. Once the property is safe, call us and we’ll get an engineer out to trace the problem, repair it, and get your gas back on.

If anyone feels dizzy, sick or unwell and you suspect carbon monoxide, get everyone into fresh air and call 999.

Emergency Gas Repairs

If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency line first on 0800 111 999. It’s free and open 24 hours. Turn the gas off at the meter if it’s safe to do so, open the windows, and don’t use naked flames or flick any switches.

The emergency service will make the property safe, but they won’t fix the fault. That’s the bit we do. Once they’ve been, give us a call and we’ll get an engineer out to find the problem and repair it, so you’re not stuck without heating or hot water any longer than you have to be.

What Counts as a Gas Emergency

Boiler repair
Pipework
Rusty gas pipe
Gas leak detection
Gas Leak Tracing & Repair
The emergency service has been, your gas is shut off, and now you need the actual fault found and fixed. We trace the leak, repair the pipework or appliance, test the whole system, and restore your supply once it's confirmed safe.
Boiler Breakdowns
No heating and no hot water is miserable at the best of times and a real problem in a Scottish winter, especially with kids, older people or anyone unwell in the house. We get out fast, diagnose the fault, and get many boilers running again the same visit.
No Hot Water
If the heating works but the hot water doesn't, or the whole lot's down, we'll find out why. Often it's a valve, a part or a pressure issue that can be sorted quickly once diagnosed.
Carbon Monoxide Concerns
If your CO alarm has gone off, or an appliance is burning with a floppy orange flame, sooty marks or heavy condensation, stop using it. Once everyone's safe, we'll inspect the appliance, find the cause, and either fix it or shut it down properly. Faulty flues and poor ventilation are common culprits.
Gas Cut Off After a Safety Inspection
If an engineer or the emergency service has disconnected an appliance or your supply and left a warning notice, we can carry out the repairs needed to get you reconnected safely.
Pipework Damage
Hit a gas pipe during DIY or building work? Stop, ventilate, and call the emergency line if gas is escaping. Once it's safe, we'll repair or reroute the damaged pipework and test everything before the gas goes back on.

Areas We Cover

Local engineers mean faster arrivals when it matters. We cover:

  • Glasgow
  • Edinburgh
  • Aberdeen
  • Dundee
  • Inverness

And the towns and villages around each. Outside these areas? Call anyway. If we can get to you, we will.

Why Call Us in an Emergency

  • Urgent jobs come first. Safety issues and no-heat households go to the top of the list.
  • Gas Safe registered. Every engineer, every job. Check our registration on the Gas Safe Register if you like.
  • Straight answers. We’ll tell you honestly when we can be there. No promising “20 minutes” and turning up at teatime.
  • Price before work. Even on urgent jobs, you get the cost before the repair starts.

How It Works

  1. Call us. Tell us what’s happening. If it’s a suspected leak and you haven’t called 0800 111 999 yet, we’ll tell you to do that first.
  2. We get an engineer moving. You’ll get an honest arrival window, not a guess.
  3. Diagnose and quote. The engineer finds the fault and gives you the price.
  4. Fixed and tested. Repair done, system tested, gas confirmed safe.

Emergency Gas Services FAQs

Who do I call first, you or the gas emergency line?
If you can smell gas or suspect a leak, always call the National Gas Emergency line first on 0800 111 999. They make the property safe for free. Then call us to find and repair the fault. If it's a breakdown with no safety risk, like a dead boiler, call us directly.
Is the National Gas Emergency service free?
Yes, the call and the emergency response are free. They'll make the situation safe, usually by isolating your gas supply, but they don't carry out repairs. The repair is a separate job for a Gas Safe registered engineer.
How fast can you get here?
It depends where you are and what else is on. Genuine emergencies go first. Call us and we'll give you a real answer, not a promise we can't keep.
My carbon monoxide alarm went off. What do I do?
Get everyone into fresh air straight away. If anyone feels unwell, call 999. Call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999, and don't use the appliance again until it's been inspected. Once things are safe, we can inspect, test and repair whatever caused it.
The emergency service turned my gas off. Can you reconnect it?
Yes, that's exactly the job we do. They isolate the supply to make things safe, and we find the fault, repair it, test the system and restore your gas once it passes.
